Misaa’s Story

Misaa is one of our Community & Maternity Champions, and a local resident. So far, she has completed 8 months of volunteering with our Champions project, and she told us:

“When I first joined the Champions, I was hopeful and had a clear set of goals. With my medical background, I aimed to strengthen my CV, build my confidence, and improve my communication skills to advance my career. I viewed the project as a unique opportunity to gain valuable experience that could set me apart when applying for specialty training in the future.

The training provided by Champions project has been incredibly valuable, offering practical skills I can apply both professionally and personally. A standout for me was the Supporting Behavior Change training, which enhanced my communication skills and taught me effective motivational interviewing techniques to help individuals make positive changes in their lives.

“Volunteering with Champions has been a truly fulfilling experience.”

It has not only allowed me to give back to my community but also helped me build meaningful connections. A particularly memorable moment was distributing winter goody bags to elderly and vulnerable adults—seeing the direct impact of our efforts was incredibly rewarding.

The Champions Project has given me a strong sense of purpose and belonging. More than just a volunteering opportunity, it is a supportive community where people uplift one another. Through this journey, I have grown both personally and professionally, and I am truly grateful for everything I have gained along the way.”
