June 1st – 7th is Volunteers’ Week, and we want to say a huge thank you to all of the amazing people who generously give their time to support our community.
They support some of our biggest projects and events such as our Community Pantry and our newly-launched meals for refugees and asylum seekers. They also play an essential role in the day-to-day running of our centre from our office and reception. Special thanks go to our Pantry volunteers Kris and Andy, who have each given hundreds of hours to support our work this year.
Pictured above are our team of Community Pantry volunteers, sorting through the biggest ever donation to the Pantry.
“Volunteering at the reception was an amazing experience. I have certainly improved on my confidence and communication. They are skills that will be cherished for life.” – Reception Volunteer
We also want to thank our corporate volunteers. Businesses such as Ambassadeurs Group bring teams of volunteers to support our biggest events including our popular afternoon Tea Parties. We also want to thank a large number of civil servants working nearby at various government departments, who come to us after work to support projects like our Hot Meals Service for homeless people and rough sleepers.
Our corporate partners can also donate their professional skills, and this year we’ve been particularly fortunate to have been chosen for support from the companies working on the development at 105 Victoria Street, who have helped with painting our rooms and other jobs around our centre, as well as transforming our outdoor space into the Lemon Pip Garden. Many thanks to BentallGreenOak, Gleeds, Skanska, Clipfine, Bowles & Wyer, creative agency J2, Boughton Loam, and Deepdale Trees for their support on this project.
Our work would not be possible without our wonderful volunteers, and we are always grateful for all the incredible things they do for our community.

We currently have a number of exciting and rewarding volunteer roles available, so please consider volunteering at the Abbey Centre. We’re looking for receptionists, people to help at our Community Pantry and other activities, and more.
