Volunteers Week 2025

It’s Volunteers Week!

Our charity’s work depends on the support of so many amazing volunteers. Last year, they delivered an incredible 14,199 hours of volunteering between them, across our many different projects. We’re so grateful to each and every one of them!

We’re pleased to share some messages of thanks from our staff team.

After-School Club

“Dear Jens and Sa’ad, thank you so much for your time to help our after-school club. Without your support, we will never be able to deliver such a successful activity.“

Tania Faraj, Wellbeing Project Coordinator

Employability Support

Tara has used her professional experience to support clients with our Employability Support service.

“Tara, we are forever thankful for the time you have given.”

Parul Wangoo, Training and Employment Consultant

Advice Service Volunteer

“Thank you for the invaluable support you’ve provided through your IT expertise. Your dedication, patience, and willingness to share your time and knowledge have made a meaningful difference to everyone who has benefited from your help.

Through volunteering, the advice project benefited greatly from supporting the local community, which led to the creation of a paid role within the advice service at the Abbey Centre. We are incredibly fortunate to have you as part of our team.“

Assia Donovan, Advice & Support Officer

Community Pantry

“A huge thank you to each and every one who turns up week in, week out to support the Pantry.

What a great caring kind and thoughtful team we have, they all bring individual qualities to the Pantry.

We really could not run the Pantry at the Abbey Centre without the Volunteers.”

Erica Fuller, Community Pantry Project Officer

“We like to all enjoy sitting down and break bread together. A massive thank you to the personal shopping team at the Community Pantry.

The positive impact they have on our service users is amazing, making the Abbey Centre a safe space for everyone to enjoy.

Many thanks to you all!“

Meals Projects

We provide warm meals on two evenings each week, for homeless people, and for refugees and asylum seekers. Civil servants come to support us from several different government departments in our area. Their help is vital to ensure the smooth running of the service, and they spend time engaging with our guests to ensure they feel safe and welcome.

“We would like to say a massive thank you to all the Civil Servants who support our meals projects.“

Caz Gandy-Brown, Volunteer Manager

Corporate Partnerships

We work with many local businesses who come to support us as part of their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programmes. They usually help out at our biggest events like Tea Parties, which are great fun for everyone involved, and a vital part of our efforts to reduce social isolation.

“Volunteers come in many forms, we have a wonderful relationship with our CSR partners, and they have a huge impact and support our many Tea Parties. They make a huge impact on so many lives when they come to support.“
