Community Champions proudly present

We Are The Champions

It’s Volunteers Week, and we want to say a big thank you to our team of Community Champions.

The Community Champions programme brings people together to build strong communities and connect them to local services. We aim to support residents in our communities with their health and wellbeing, by delivering activities that empower them to live healthier and happier lives.

Our Community Champions team volunteer on and around Churchill Gardens and Tachbrook estates, promoting health and wellbeing and local services to family, friends and neighbours.

We are so grateful to each and every one of our Champions for all the work they do to support their communities. We’re immensely proud to see how they’ve grown during their time with us, and we want to highlight a few of their many achievements.

Zinab

Currently volunteering as a Community & Maternity Champion in Pimlico South

Contributions to activities: Women’s only fitness. Information sharing. Supporting and leading in the Maternity Champions Project activities

After working through her accredited training and consistently attending and supporting a variety of Community engagement activities, Zinab built up her confidence and skills. She is now working part-time in a job that she loves! We are so proud of her!

Taysir

6 months volunteering service as a Community Champion in Pimlico South

Contributions to activities: Project administration.  Supporting and leading women’s-only swimming in partnership with Sport for Confidence.

Taysir had a dream to learn to swim. She had never swum before and was told there is no point pursuing this. The Community Champions Project saw her potential and offered her the opportunity to not only volunteer in the swimming sessions but also learn to swim for herself! She has loved this and taken to it, like a Duck to Water!

Taysir was offered a full-time job recently as an administrator and has spoken highly of the confidence the Champions project has given her. We are so proud of you Taysir, keep going!

Blake

6 months volunteering service as a Community Champion in Pimlico South.

Contributions to activities: Project administration.  Supporting and leading Games at the café and Art Therapy

Blake has been instrumental in supporting how we capture and record our data. He has been a great administrator, and a calm and friendly Champion at our activities. Thank you for all your hard work Blake, and we will you all the very best as you continue to support Abbey Centre projects as an ongoing admin volunteer!

Misaa

6 months volunteering service as a Community & Maternity Champion in Pimlico South.

Contributions to activities: Women’s only fitness. Information sharing. Supporting and leading in the Maternity Champions Project activities.

We’ve shared Misaa’s Story before, where she spoke about the skills she’s gained to apply to both her professional and personal life. She highlighted our Supporting Behaviour Change training, which enhanced her communication skills and taught her effective motivational interviewing techniques to help individuals make positive changes in their lives. During her time as a Champion, she’s also helped to distribute winter goody bags to elderly and vulnerable adults.

Misaa is now applying these skills in her work as a medical professional.

Isabel

After just 2 months volunteering as a Champion, Isabel was bold, courageous and determined.

She applied for our super successful Apprenticeship and got the job! She has been working 30 hours a week supporting the Champions project and studying hard towards her level 3 Community health and wellbeing apprenticeship.

Well done, Isabel!
